A message from our Chair of Directors, Claire Blamey:
Dear parents and carers,
Thank you for your interest in our school. We work hard to make sure your child is able to learn to the best of their abilities in a safe and supported environment. We want to ensure that your child enjoys learning, whilst developing social skills and independence. We have an exciting curriculum which uses both indoor and outdoor space, and we have fantastic links with the local community (rated 'outstanding' by OFSTED). Staff are friendly and approachable, and children enjoy coming to this school.
I wish to, on behalf of the Governing Body, welcome you and your family, and hope to meet you soon.
What are School Governors?
Cliff Park Infant School and Cliff Park Junior School have one board of Directors across the two schools. The school became an Academy on April 1st 2013, and as such legally have directors.
The schools have a joint Local Governing Body with responsibility for maintaining standards, and supporting and challenging school leadership to strive for excellence.
School governors are volunteers that form the Governing Body for the schools. Governors come from all aspects of a school community: parents, staff, local community and local authority.
For more information on our Local Governing Body, governance structure, our Trust directors, etc. please see the East Anglia Schools Trust website, and the 'Articles of Association' below.
Who are the School Governors?
We are a group of volunteers with a range of skills and interests and a common aim: to ensure pupils at Cliff Park Infant and Junior Schools are given the opportunity to achieve their best.
Our members are: (please click on each name to view a short biography and photograph)
- Jackie Cutchey (Chair)
- Jackie Huggins
- Barry Nichols
- Ellen Watson
- Michael Walsh
- Phil Reid (Head of Infant School)
- Louise Watkins (Head of Junior School)
What does the Governing Body do?
The Governing Body’s main responsibility is to provide strategic leadership for the school working under guidelines established by the East Anglia Schools Trust Directors, these include:
- Developing and supporting the strategic plan for the school;
- Ensuring accountability;
- Challenging and supporting the Heads of School;
- Monitoring and evaluating the performance of the schools;
- Managing the school budgets;
- Setting the aims and policies for the schools;
- Supporting the Appointment of members of staff.
To achieve this, all governors attend a Local Governing Body Meeting at least once a term. Governors also monitor the performance of the school through formal and informal visits to the schools, volunteering at the schools and feedback from pupils, parents and other community members.
Becoming a School Governor
You do not need to have specific training or have a child attend Cliff Park Infant or Junior Schools to become a governor. All we ask is that you are willing to give at least a few hours a month and have a desire to contribute to the continued development of the schools.
All successful applicants will be given an induction and have the opportunity to attend training to further develop their skills and abilities.
If you are interested in volunteering as a school governor and would like to find out more please contact the Governing Body or either school.
Your views are important to us
The Governing Body consistently seeks feedback regarding the school and its performance from our stakeholders. If you have any comments or suggestions to make Cliff Park Infant or Junior School a better school please get in touch with us using the contact details below.
Please note that governors are not involved in the day to day running of the schools as this is delegated to the Heads of School. If you have a particular query regarding your child you should first speak to the class teacher or Head of School.
